How to Upgrade Joomla 3.6

"Before updating, always take a backup and don’t forget to test it".

Update by using the Joomla! Update component

Preferably you update your Joomla! Installation by using the Joomla! Update component
If you don't know how to use the Joomla! update component, please see: Joomla! Update Component.

Update when you can´t use the Joomla! Update component

If you can’t update your Joomla! Installation using the Joomla! Update component because of hosting limitations or connection issues then you will need to follow these steps:

Method A

  • Go to Components → Joomla Update. Click the "Update url" link and save the update package to your computer.
  • Copy the update package (that you just downloaded) to the sites /tmp folder (note the path is set in the Joomla Global Configuration - make sure it's in the correct directory)

(N.B. this method only works with the update package that the Joomla! Update component discovers. It will not work for other update packages or the Joomla full package. It also requires an internet connection to the Joomla Update XML file).

  • Go to Components → Joomla Update. The Joomla! Update component will use the update package from your /tmp folder.

Method B

(If you don't have the ability to unpack the archive on the server, please see Method C)

  • Download the update package from https://www.joomla.org/download.html
  • Copy the update package to the root directory of your site and unpack it. Note that you need to tell the system to replace any existing files. For example, in ASPHostPortal.com, use the FTP File Manager to upload the update file and then use "Unarchive" to unpack it. Check the box "Overwrite existing files".
  • Log in to your Joomla! Administrator panel and go to Extensions → Manage → Database and select the Fix button on the top left.
  • Go within the manage section to Discover menu item in the left menu and click the Discover button. Select only the Joomla! CORE extensions shown in the list and click the Install button. (Note: do not select for installation the 3rd party extensions you may have installed).
  • In the main menu of your administrator panel, go to System → Clear Cache and if any rows are shown, select them and click the Delete button at the top left.

Method C

If you don't have the ability to unpack the archive on the server (method B), please use this method:

  • Download the update package from https://www.joomla.org/download.html
  • Extract the download package on your computer
  • Using your favorite FTP software, upload the folders and files at the root of the website or in the folder where your Joomla! installation is located. (NOTE: If you are using Filezilla, click on "Replace" for all, if you are using WinSCP, click on upload and then allow override for all. The FTP software will overwrite the existing files and add the new ones.)

Tips on Speeding up Your Joomla Site Efficiently

As Google keeps on updating its algorithms, most of the Joomla website owners show a lot of concern towards boosting up the loads of their sites. These changes have a great impact on the page rank if a website loads slowly. Most of the Joomla site owners consider speeding up as a secondary issue; however, it now holds a lot of importance. Therefore, you have to speed up the performance of your Joomla website if you want to improve the page ranks.
As Joomla is a good option for hosting a website and many people are looking for the methods to speed up Joomla sites, we worked out the following easy-to-follw article to help you get to know about the best ways which will help you to speed up Joomla in an efficient way.

Ways to Speed up Joomla sites

Here are some most effective ways which help you in enhancing the performance of your Joomla website:

7 Tips for Joomla

Optimization of Templates

Templates might be the most prominent reason of the speed loss of your site. You may have a good looking site but its slower performance may act as a hurdle in your way of getting a good page rank. There are thousands of templates which are created for Joomla every day. However, there are many templates which do not work out efficiently. Most of these templates utilize 70+ images in a day. The bad thing is that these images are not at all optimized and they make the working of your website slower. So, you have to work on it.

Optimization of your website

You can use a lot of techniques for optimization of your website. These tactics include websites which are based on Joomla. The best thing which could be done is that you have to ensure that you are encoding your website pages with Gzip. This is going to speed up Joomla site for you. Other tactics include the use of PHP and CSS. You have to remove white space from the files of templates. Also, remove the commands of CSS, which are considered important. These tactics are surely going to work out for you.

Joomla Upgrade

You must use the upgraded version of Joomla for the security of you websites. Each update has small changes in it, which speed up the time of loading of Joomla to a great extent. This is also true for extensions of Joomla that you are utilizing. There are a lot of other problems which are related with the use of Joomla websites becuase of the use of certain extensions added in the site. You have to be careful regarding the use of updated and recently upgraded versions of Joomla extensions and updates.

Joomla Updates

There are many Joomla extensions which can do dish washing for you. Many of these extensions are not considered efficient and they can become a major cause of slow down of your sites. In order to remove this issue, you need to install a component of page caching. However, do not enable it. In this way, you will be able to see the time of loading for each of your URL. Find all those URLs which are showing a slow performance. All of the sites showing slow load times will have a common component in them which won’t be present in the fast sites

Search Engine Friendly URL

The foremost thing which is done by most of the webmasters is that they make their website’s URL user-friendly and search engine friendly. This is also done by Joomla core in an automatic way. There are some webmasters that want a lot of more control and they believe that this could be done by incorporating an extra component. The issue is that most of these components do not work out efficiently. Therefore, it is suggested that webmasters must focus on the creation of such URLs which are user-friendly and search engine friendly.

Costs

Joomla is regarded to be a feature packed content management system. Most of the web developers select it for bridging with other programs for enhancing the working. When both programs are used together, they complement one another. This is not usually worth doing. This is becuase both the programs have independent functioning and the core of the programs will need to be loaded. This will create a hit to the performance of your website becuase two pages need to be loaded at the same time. The functionality needs to be improved.

Joomla Tools

You are allowed to install a large number of tools and plugins within a few seconds using Joomla. All of these tools have been created with different practices of coding. All of them require different frameworks for their functionality. This is a massive bloat of codes, which actually brings you server to the knee. It makes you site perform quite slowly. If you want to prevent yourself from further headaches, then you must load very small amounts of Java Scripts. Keep yourself confined to a limited usage of plugins and extensions if you want to speed up Joomla.

Joomla Hosting - ASPHostPortal.com :: How To Creating a Main menu at the Top position in Joomla

clock March 14, 2015 14:18 by author ben

Most Joomla templates provide the ability to use main menu on the top menu position. Usually this position is right after the header and before content. Lets create the menu items that point right to our newly created content pages.

  • In admin go to Menus -> Main menu
  • Select New from the top left corner
  • Click on “Menu item type” to define the type of this menu item. Select Article ->Single article from the popup.
  • Click “Select article” to define the article this menu item points at. Select one of your articles you created from the popup list.
  • Type the menu item title (will appear on the page, should be short, e.g. Welcome!)
  • Alias field can be left empty to let Joomla create the alias based on your written menu item title.

  • Menu location should be “Main menu” and status should be “Published”

  • The rest of the settings can be left as they are on the right side by default.

  • Click on Save & Close and create a menu item for each of the articles (pages) you need.

Now you have a menu, it only needs to be positioned. In previous chapter you found the position that can be used as the position for your top menu. Lets assign the main menu to that position.

  • In admin panel, go to Extensions -> Module manager
  • Click to select Main menu
  • In “Position” select the proper position for your main menu, so it will be displayed on the top

  • Click save, refresh your page. (remove ?&tp=1 from the address bar if you’re still seeing the module positions)

Joomla Hosting - ASPHostPortal.com :: Develop a Joomla Template from scratch

clock February 24, 2015 05:58 by author ben

Want a customized joomla template for the business requirements? It really is so easy to construct a template of one's decision as an alternative to paying thousands for it. So lets commence now.

To produce a joomla template you may require at the least two files,

  1. templateDetails.xml which can be mainly configuration file containing info like autor name, e mail, template version, folders and file names and module names (we'll discuss it leter).
  2. index.php which can be entry point for all pages
    These are standard files required to create a joomla template, but furthermore you will need some a lot more files to produce a beautiful and powerful template like css, images, language, javascript, html and so forth.

Now lets generate our xml file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<extension version="2.5" type="template" client="site">
<name>template_name</name>
<creationdate>29 January 2014</creationdate>
<author>write Your name here</author>
<authoremail>write your email here</authoremail>
<authorurl>your website url here</authorurl>
<copyright>Copyright here. All rights reserved.</copyright>
<license>License here</license>
<version>2.5.0</version>
<description>TPL_NAME_XML_DESCRIPTION</description>
<files>
<filename>index.html</filename>
<filename>index.php</filename>
<filename>templateDetails.xml</filename>
<filename>template_preview.png</filename>
<filename>template_thumbnail.png</filename>
<filename>favicon.ico</filename>
<filename>component.php</filename>
<filename>error.php</filename>
</files>
<positions>
<position>debug</position>
<position>top</position>
<position>position-2</position>
<position>position-3</position>
<position>position-4</position>
<position>position-5</position>
<position>position-6</position>
<position>banner</position>
<position>left-navigation</position>
<position>position-login</position>
<position>position-footer</position>
</positions>
</extension>

As you can see further files are right here like index.html (just to avoid direct access of this folder) , template_preview.png and template_thumbnail.png to show in administrator panel. Here several positions are defined which we'll use in our index.php file.

Your xml is prepared, now produce your index.php file.

<?php defined( '_JEXEC' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );?>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html xml:lang="<!--?php echo $this--->language; ?>" lang="<!--?php echo $this--->language; ?>" >
<head>
<jdoc:include type="head" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php echo $this->baseurl ?>/templates/template_name/css/template.css" type="text/css">
</head>
<body>
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="top" />
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="banner" />
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="left-navigation" />
<jdoc:include type="component" />
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="footer" />
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="position-3" />
</body>
</html>

As you see we have included defined( '_JEXEC' ) or die( 'Restricted access' );
just for security reasons to prevent direct access. is here to tell browsers and crawlers that its a html5 web page.

body{padding:0;margin:0;font-family:"arial";font-size:12px;color:#5d6060;background-color:#fff}
a{text-decoration:none;outline:0}
a:focus,a:active{outline:0}
img{border:0;outline:0}
.container{height:auto;width:1044px;margin-right:auto;margin-left:auto}
.container_sub{height:auto;width:1044px;float:left}
#header_main{height:auto;width:1044px;float:left}
#header{height:118px;width:1044px;float:left}
.header_top{height:auto;width:1044px;float:left}
#logo{height:75px;width:231px;float:left;margin-top:4px}

Your template is ready now but to perform with joomla you've got to upload it below templates folder. Following uploading it to templates folder log in for your joomla administrator and open extensions -> Templates manger. Right here you'll not be able to see your template as you expected. This can be since it calls for one more step, to set up the template. Ok, visit Extensions -> Extension Manager then click Learn tab now click on discover icon around the top-right corner from the page. It's going to search all of the extensions accessible inside your joomla installation, here you will be able to see your template name, select it and click on set up icon on the top-right corner of the page. This will likely install your template. Now you happen to be done. Go to Extensions-> Template manager , right here you'll be able to see your installed template.

Hello everyone. At present I am coping with an incredibly common Content Management System known as Joomla and believe me it is quite easy to create any type of Internet site employing this tool. But this post is about an issue faced by me in Joomla. I lost my admin password accidentally but I located a approach to recover them which helped me a great deal. • Now we’ll edit this table. So click on edit icon.

  • Now inside the password field pick function md5 and then type the password you want to set for the account. You are able to see this within the screenshot. Now click Go.
  • Congrats! We've got successfully reset the admin password for Joomla. You'll be able to reset password for any user by way of this way. I hope you like it.
